Two Garo insurgents killed in Assam


Guwahati, Aug 7 (IANS): Two insurgents of a Meghalaya-based Garo outfit were Thursday killed by security forces in Assam's Goalpara district, officials said.

After a tip that some cadres of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) were sheltering in Khangkhal area, police and soldiers from the 19th Dogra Regiment launched an early morning operation.

A gun battle ensued and the two insurgents were shot dead. Some others fled, police said.

Police seized an improvised explosive device, two 7.65 pistols with three magazines and three grenades from the slain men.
