Israel's bids to separate Gaza from West Bank in vain: Fatah

Amman, Aug 7 (IANS): Israel's bids to separate Gaza Strip from the West Bank and its "criminal" military operations have all failed, Fatah secretary-general in Jordan, Najib Qaddoumi, has said.

Speaking to MENA news agency, Qaddoumi said "the Israeli enemy always tries to drag us into an unequal battle".

The Palestinian factions have presented a document with their demands in light of the Egyptian Gaza ceasefire initiative, he said.

"The factions went to Cairo under one team and one vision to make the world realise that hardships unify the people," he said.

Egypt is brokering a peace deal between Israel and the Islamist Hamas movement after Israel launched a massive military operation in Gaza July 8 in order to halt Palestinian rocket fire.

The cross-border violence has so far killed around 1,900 Palestinians and 67 Israelis, including 64 soldiers.
