Juventus midfielder Romulo on Brazil radar

Rio de Janeiro, Aug 6 (IANS): Brazil coach Dunga has raised the prospect of calling up Juventus loanee Romulo for upcoming friendlies against Colombia and Ecuador.

Brazilian-born Romulo has Italian citizenship and was included in the Azzurri's provisional 30-man World Cup squad earlier this year before being cut by coach Cesare Prandelli, reported Xinhua.

"As he hasn't played for Italy, I consider him to be Brazilian," Dunga was quoted saying by Globoesporte.

Romulo last week joined Juventus on a year-long loan from their Italian Serie A rivals Verona.

Dunga did not rule out selecting the 27-year-old for Brazil's fixtures against Colombia Sep 5 and Ecuador four days later.

The 1994 World Cup-winning captain will announce his squad for the friendlies Aug 19.

"I will be watching all the players that are available," Dunga said. "Nobody is out and nobody is in the Brazilian team.

"It's still early days and not the time to be making promises because there are many good players on paper. I will consider Romulo and we will talk at a later date before making a decision."

Dunga, who also coached Brazil from 2006 to 2010, replaced Luiz Felipe Scolari as Selecao boss after the team failed to reach the final of the World Cup as hosts and pre-tournament favourites.
