India to vie for 4 golds on CWG final day

Glasgow, Aug 3 (IANS): Eleven gold medals will be up for grabs on the final day of the 20th Commonwealth Games here Sunday. India will compete in four disciplines for a shot at the top prize.

Parupalli Kashyap will kick off proceedings for the Indians in the men's singles badminton gold medal match against Singapore's Derek Wong.

Shuttlers Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa will also be in action against Malaysian duo Vivian Kah Mun Hoo and Khe Wei Woon in the women's doubles final.

In a repeat of the 2010 Delhi Games men's hockey final, India will take on the might of the Australians.

India have won just one hockey medal, a silver, in the Commonwealth Games and that was four years ago when they were thrashed 0-8 by Australia.

Not to be counted out, six Indians will take part in the men's cycling road race. A medal for them of any colour in this discipline, which is dominated by the English and the Australians, is, however, highly unlikely.

India are fifth in the medal standings with a tally of 61 medals, including 14 golds, 28 silvers and 19 bronzes and are assured of a minimum of three more silvers by the end of the day.
