Indian Olympic Assn official, referee arrested at CWG in Glasgow

Glasgow, Aug 3 (PTI): In a massive embarrassment for the Indian contingent at the ongoing Commonwealth Games here, IOA Secretary General Rajeev Mehta and wrestling referee Virender Malik have been arrested on different charges.

According to reports, while Mehta has been arrested for drunken driving, Malik is facing a more serious charge of sexual assault.

Media reports, quoting a Scotland Yard spokesperson, stated that "two male members - aged 45 and 49 - were arrested on separate charges."

The two will be produced in court tomorrow.

The duo, however, is not part of the official 215-strong contingent which is staying in the Games village. Both of them were reportedly lodged at a local hotel.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman confirmed the arrests but refused to divulge anything more.

"On the August 2, a 49-year-old man was arrested following reports of an alleged assault at City Centre of Glasgow. On August 2, a 45-year-old man was arrested following reports of an alleged assault in the west of Glasgow," said the spokeswoman.

Asked if Malik had been arrested for alleged sexual assault, the spokeswoman said, "I cannot confirm right now."

Prajwel, any amount of chest beating will prove nothing...
I feel i have given a fair call by at least giving the 3rd class ranking (that includes myself as well) Recall the last CWG in Delhi, the loot by Dixit, Kalmadi, shoddy work, bridges falling, below standard pools etc etc. You may blame it on Cong. Yes but nobody is held to account. Lets see ourselves, at a traffic light we wriggle around the traffic as much as possible, jump past the q to get as forward to take off as soon as the light turns green...at a cinema we try and wriggle in the q to get to the ticket window...When there is a call to join the Defense Force (army, nay or air force) we all look at each other and say you first Sir...
On 19 Jul 2014, the UN released a report that by 2024, India will be highest populated country in the world with official count crossing 1.45 billion...The system would be under the highest strain and there would be a virtual collapse in providing clean drinking water, sustainable growth in food, public transport would be under strain and most water reserves would be polluted to extreme levels yet a couple of channels had this telecast for a couple of minutes and then the usual - "He Said, She Said, My Book, Your Book - In Politics" was the telecast. In closing i would like you to please see what were Prime Minister Winston Churchill's views on the Politicians of Independent India and you will see that he was not wrong and he said this in 1945...
I am wasting my time on this but if it helps so be it. Take it Easy and Look After Yourself.

no doubt its a shame for indians and its a shame we have rapes every day in india . Not that these things dont happen in the west .So there is no need for to term all indians as rapists as projected by some of our readers here.
strict action should be taken with these people who think they are on a holiday when they are representing our country

    Prajwal,

No need to jump so high on your seat ! After what happened at Delhi to the Paramedics student, I am sure every Indian will be ashamed with his native belonging !

The incident, and those that continue to happen, erased even a bit of pride we had as Indians !

Madam Lidiya, I agree that we Indians feel ashamed by wrong doings of few at national and international arena many times. But for that calling all Indians including you & me, as 3rd class people is bizarre! You may not feel pride to be Indian but you are certainly not 3rd class person right?
