Indian women's hockey team lose 0-3 to New Zealand


Glasgow, July 28 (IANS): The Indian women's hockey team lost 0-3 to higher ranked New Zealand in their second Pool A match of the 20th Commonwealth Games here Sunday.

The Black Sticks managed to sneak through the Indian defence in the third minute and Gemma Flynn did not disappoint, scoring the first goal at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

Some promising passing moves from India raised hopes and they played well to disallow World No.4 New Zealand from scoring till half-time.

The second half saw India attacking and dominated play for the first 10 minutes. But in the 46th minute New Zealand earned a penalty corner which Anita Punt converted to take a 2-0 lead.

Anita managed to add on to the score in the 53rd minute when she converted a penalty stroke to make it 3-0.

India will take on Trinidad and Tobago in their third match Monday.
