Australia's Marsh to undergo elbow surgery

Melbourne, July 22 (IANS): Australia's top order batsman Shaun Marsh has been ruled out from playing cricket for the next 3-4 months as he will undergo a surgery on his left elbow.

“Shaun suffered left elbow ligament damage during the IPL. These types of injuries aren’t common with cricketers and generally heal with time but unfortunately Shaun’s injury hasn’t recovered as well as we would have liked," Cricket Australia (CA) physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said Tuesday.

“After seeing a specialist Monday we decided the best course of action would be for Shaun to have surgery to stabilise the joint. The surgery is quite significant and it will take approximately 3-4 months to recover but we believe having the surgery now will still allow him time to recover and play for Western Australia this summer with the view of him being fit and available for Australian duty mid-summer.”
