Sania Mirza is Telangana's brand ambassador

Hyderabad, July 22 (IANS): The Telangana government Tuesday appointed ace tennis player Sania Mirza as its brand ambassador.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao handed over the appointment letter to Sania along with a cheque of Rs.1 crore as grant for training and to meet other expenses to participate in the US Open and other tournaments.

The grant was announced Monday when Sania called on the chief minister.

The appointment letter and cheque were presented at a meeting the chief minister had with industrialists on the industrial policy Tuesday.

Rao said the state was proud over the achievements of the ‘daughter of Hyderabad’.

Noting that Sania now is ranked fifth in the doubles, he hoped that she will become number one one day.

Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma said the government would appoint popular public figures as its brand ambassadors to promote the interests of the newly created state.
