Port-of-Spain, Aug 10: A lavish celebrity party thrown by West Indies cricket captain Brian Lara at his sprawling mansion here attracted over 3,000 guests.

The night formed part of the Crop Over Festival on the island and was organised by Courtney Browne, former West Indies wicketkeeper who is a close friend of Lara.

The world’s highest test scorer was the star attraction of the Sunday evening party at the 18-acre Ebworth House, tickets for which went for US$ 125 each, the Jamaica Observer reported.

Among the high-profile visitors were Sir Garfield Sobers and Desmond Haynes. Several private and public sector officials from Barbados and Trinidad also attended the lavish do.

Fine cuisine, a wide variety of drinks and entertainment from some of the best calypso performers from Barbados and Trinidad formed part of the evening.
