England bowled out for 496

Nottingham, July 12 (IANS): India finally ended their frustration by bowling England out for 496 but not before Joe Root and James Anderson's record 10th-wicket partnership helped the hosts to get out of a precarious position and take a lead of 39 runs on the fourth day of the first Test at Trent Bridge here Saturday.

England's innings lasted only 4.5 overs in the afternoon session as tailender Anderson was brilliantly caught by Shikhar Dhawan at first slip off Bhuvneshwar Kumar's bowling, who clinched the first five-wicket haul of his Test career (5/82).

England added 11 runs post lunch as middle order batsman Joe Root remained unbeaten on 154.

Root and Anderson's partnership of 198 is the highest 10th-wicket partnership in Test cricket, surpassing the previous record held by Australia's Phillip Hughes and Ashton Agar, who together made 163 against England in July 2013 on the very same ground.
