New Delhi, July 11 (IANS): The Supreme Court Friday did not take up for hearing a letter by the BCCI's interim president incharge for IPL-7 Sunil Gavaskar as Justice Rohinton Fali Nariman recused himself from hearing the matter.
As the matter was called for hearing before a bench of Chief Justice R.M. Lodha, Justice Pinaki Chandra Ghose and Justice Nariman, the latter recused himself from hearing the matter since as a senior counsel, he had earlier appeared for BCCI's N. Srinivasan.
Gavaskar has sent a communication to the apex court which was listed for hearing before the bench of Chief Justice Lodha, Justice Ghose and Justice Nariman.
Chief Justice Lodha, while not taking up the matter for hearing, said that they would pass the order for its listing before an appropriate bench.
One of the counsel appearing for the BCCI said that Gavaskar has sent the communication in connection with his remuneration as ordered by the court when he was appointed as interim president incharge for the IPL-7.
The apex court, had appointing Gavaskar as interim president incharge for IPL-7 March 28, said that that legendry cricketer would no more be a BCCI-contracted cricket commentator and he would be adequately compensated for it by the board.
The court in its order had said, "Mr.Gavaskar will not work as a commentator during this period as an interim president of the BCCI in relation to IPL matters and he will be adequately compensated for his loss of income for this period by the BCCI. The compensation amount will be determined after the Court resumes hearing on April 16."
Gavaskar was appointed as an interim president incharge for IPL-7 and BCCI's senior vice-president Shivlal Yadav was asked to oversee the rest of the work of the cricket body after Srinavasan told the court that he would distance himself from discharging the functions of the board's president till probe into the allegations of betting and spot fixing in IPL-6 was completed.
