Mangalore: DVS who led protest for separate rail division fails to act on his own demand!

Naveen Menezes
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore

Mangalore, Jul 11: The incumbent union railway minister D V Sadananda Gowda (DVS), who, in the past when he was less powerful as a politician, led a series of protests to create a separate Mangalore railway division, has failed to fulfill the long-pending demand of coastal Karnataka, despite heading the railway ministry this time. This only shows the change of attitude with the change of position, say activists who have been fighting for this cause.

On February 10, 2012, Sadananda Gowda, who was the chief minister then, had also written a letter to the railway ministry (of the UPA government) urging for the same. Although DVS now enjoys the railway ministry to which he himself had previously written a letter, he has failed to act on it.

When DVS assumed the charge as the minister for railways, the hopes were high among the people of Dakshina Kannada. As D V Sadananda Gowda himself was part of several deliberations where this issue was discussed, the creation of a separate railway division for Mangalore region by separating it from the Palakkad division and bringing it under the Konkan railway network, was much expected in this railway budget.

Being the tail of Palakkad division, Mangalore has not been getting its due since long. Presently, at least 75 percent of Palakkad division’s revenue comes from goods movement from the New Mangalore Port. Sources in the NMPT said that the port is contributing Rs 4,000 to Rs 6,000 crore as freight charges to the Palakkad division. This means, the creation of a separate division will also be followed with several benefits for the coastal people.

Hanumant Kamath of Nagarika Hitarakshana Samiti of Mangalore said, "D V Sadananda Gowda fooled the people by projecting himself as fighter for a separate division. It was just a drama in front of people. If he had real intentions to create separate Mangalore division, he should have done it on Tuesday (when rail budget was presented). It is shame. If Gowda visits this city, we will greet him with black flags," he said.

However, some feel that it is too soon to judge DVS based on a single budged and there's still time for him to fulfill Mangaloreans' dream. Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry president, Mohhammed Ameen says, "This is just an interim budget. In the full-fledged budget in the month of February next year, we hope to see this dream fulfilled. The railway minister is aware of the issue and KCCI is pursuing this matter. Mangalore is an important station for the Palakkad with lots of revenue."

Perhaps all one can say is, let's keep our fingers crossed.

First of all railways don't have money to do anything other than run existing trains even after 14% hike in ticket price. This is reality. Any govt.It is impossible for even Modi to change it like chines railway in just 5 years. One bullet train costs 60,000 Crores from citizens money. Instead of this let the big businessmen from mumbai and gujju bhai who supports govt. in election and get benefits after to invest in this.

When no survey is done for Padubidri-Karkala-Ujire-Moodigere line and also no other Railway line Survey has been done so far for any other Line passing through Karkala how Forest Dept can take objection ?
Forest dept can take objection only when Survey is completed and the proposal is submitted to Forest Dept for their clearance. Before taking up survey Forest dept do not come in the picture.

The link provided in the previous comment clearly says that survey permission was not given by forest department. That is even survey was not allowed inside forest land.

    Check the link
    http://www.swr.indianrailways.gov.in/view_section.jsp?lang=0&id=0,1,828,831,927

Karkala supposed to be major junction between coastal area and Ghatta (Areas above ghat section).

    1. Byndoor – Kolluru – Haalady – Hebri – Karkala – Moodabidri – Venoor – Belthangady – Dharmasthala - Nettane (New Line) - Source: -(South-Western Railway approved, but forest department the blocked line)
    2. Padubidri – Karkala – Belthangady – Ujire – Dharmasthala – Nettane NL - Source:- (South-Western Railway approved, but forest department the blocked line)
    3. Padubidri-Karkala-Ujire-Moodigere - Source:-(Shobha Karandlaje's Udupi-Chikmagalur Loksabha BJP manifesto).
    4. Shimoga-Sringeri-Karkala-Mangalore - Source:-(2014-15 Railway Budget).

I doubt about all the above 4 railway lines taking off, because of forest department. Only way it can take off is by digging tunnel through Wester ghats, so that permission is needed only for entry and exit of the tunnel from the forest department.

Sadananda gowda has given 5 projects to the area in 2014-15 Budget.

    Bangalore-Mangalore daily express
    Byndoor-Kasargod passenger daily
    Shimoga-Sringeri-Mangalore new line survey
    Kaniyur-Panathur-Kanhangad new line survey
    Ullal-Mangalore-Surathkal line doubling

But the problem is already approved projects are blocked by forest department like Karkala supposed to become a major junction with 2 railway lines criss crossing. All those approved projects have not taken off, because of forest department. This budget has added another line to the junction through Shimoga-Sringeri-Mangalore. Even Shobha Karandlaje's Loksabha manifesto had Padubidri-Karkala-Mudigere line. That is Karkala Railway junction supposed to have 4 lines. But, whether Forest department will allow at-least 1 line.

    Check this link, section B.
    http://www.swr.indianrailways.gov.in/view_section.jsp?lang=0&id=0,1,828,831,927

Can the already approved projects get forest clearance. I doubt.

Yes, it might be too early. However what guarantee that DVS will still be the Railway minister till the next year's budget. There is so many MP's vying for a ministerial berth and you never know the future. Moreover PM has always the right to change portfolios. If DVS has really concern towards coastal people, he should have announced in this budget only.

Do you remember Indira Gandhi Contested from Chikmagalur Constituency in 1979 and won. At that time she had promised Kadur-Chikmagalur-Mudigere-Belthangadi-Karkala Railway line if she came back to power. At that time Belthangadi & karkala was coming under Chikkamagalur Constituency and it is this constituency which gave re-birth to her political career after her Political career was devastated after 1977 emergency. This constituency laid foundation to her bounce back to power and again becoming PM. But she never remembered this. As a PM if she wished she could have easily sanctioned this line which would have been the most useful Rly line for Karnataka, but she was very unfaithful to her Constituency. Compare this with the performance of DVS.

Mallikarjun Kharge carved out a separate Railway Division for his own Home District that is Gulbarga even though Marathi people opposed it strongly.
DVS did not have courage to take same bold decision and annoy Malyalis by carving out Mangalore Divison for his home district.
Just see how he tried to please Malyalis by introducing Baindoor-Kasargod Passenger and sanctioning Survey for Kanathoor-Kanhagad new line connecting Sulya with Kerala.

This Railway Budget was not actually prepared by DVS and his Ministry.
But it was prepared by Modi's coterie and DVS only read it out in Parliament word by word. DVS is just a mouth piece of Modi's group.
RSS also had hand in the preparation of this Railway Budget, that is why so many new Trains & Railway line Connecting Holy Places were including in this budget. Example: Totally unviable Shimogga-Shringeri-Mangalore 230 km new route and new Baindoor (Kollur)-Kasargod passenger train which connect only holy places and not useful for general public.
That is why this Rly Budget should be called as " Pilgrimage Budget" OR Theertha Yathre Budget.

Ache dhin aanewale hai??kabh???After five years??? Put all corrupt in jail and seal their properties. Why BJP is letting them? UPA ministers were corrupt and bring them to justice. Instead of punishing the culprits, BJP is following congress way. That is the tragedy. You will have to give some leeway to the system to change...40 days, Swiss money chase, 2 budgets (Railway & Finance) are just beginners for Modi.

Definately Acche din aane waale hain...DW commentators with stomach acidity & back rub pain, antacid will swallow their words & realize what is hitting them then! Until then sit back & relax because by next year, the RS issue will also resolve...BJP will have majority there too!!!

People had given NDA five years.. That time even Re 1 didn't come from Swiss Banks. Now are you day dreaming? At least that time BJP had great leadership like Vajpayee and capable ministers like George Fernandes. Now, it's all shame. Modi has ministers like corrupt Gadkari and surrounded by criminals. What better can be expected? These goons will protect criminals from congress and if they try to take action against congress criminals, these guys also will have to go jail. So, it's give and take policy and there is secret understanding between congress and BJP. Ultimately nation and poor people are suffering. Agriculture minister is following the foot steps of Sharad Pawar, finance minister is following Chidambaram. So, nothing difference between congress and BJP and fools like you don't understand the fact.

Sh Ismail Perinje, Social worker I think you've no knowledge whatsoever of any kind of economics. Please see TV or read newspapers & find out what analysts & eminent non political people have said about this budget!!

Why say copy UPA's budget? It was anti poor, this one is for the people & by the people

These Politicians doesn't have any ethics. for the purpose of vote they divide people on communal line and instinct violence. do all sort of nonsense when they are in opposition. once they are in power forget every thing. only thing what we can say is its our fate. all these BJP mp'S have only won this won because Indians where fed of UPA corruption and their was only alternate Mr. Modi who is used to say about development in Gujarat which media also supported fully and people just looked Modi as an alternate even though most of us dont know what exactly happening in Gujarat. Indians trusted him and its his wave which made these leaders as MP's. These Nalin, Sadananda are no much different then of Oscar's. Through Rotten Tomatoes when they come to dakshina kannada.

Arun Jaitley raised the rail fares with a easy dialogue "If you need a service, you have to pay for it" The same guy with his party in the opposition stalled parliament proceedings for ONE NAYA PAISA increase along with nationwide dharnas, looting, destruction bring the whole country to a standstill etc. at the cost of lakhs of rupees of parliamentary sessions lost. Hypocrites to the core.

    Indians mentality is they want
    everything free.How is it possible.
    For any developmental work govt.
    needs fund.As the previous govt.
    emptied the treasury they don't
have any option but to levy some
tax on us.One thing I want to ask
why Mr.Kharge not done the separate
    Mangalore Devision.It is because
he is under the lobby of Kerala MP'S.This is the fact.

Probably I can say in 2019... Now Mr.Nalin has won in the name of Feku Modi...these useless leaders enjoy for 5 years and project some nation leaders and ask for votes...

This feku team made thousands of fake promises before the election. The BJP it self made sevaral strike against Diesel petrol price hike, LPG price hike, Train fare hike. Only the drama they did. Now this BJP is the highest ruling party which did lots of price hike within short time. Achche din sirf Amabaani ke aane waale the. Ab aagaye. Aur bhi aayenge. Gareeb to aise hi marke, gareebi khatam hojaayegi.. Same on you Gowda... Shameless ministers..

I am happy that voters are slowly realizing the fact that they were taken for a ride by street class fekus. DVS will bring bullet train to Mangalore and some of brain dead supporters will burst crackers. He is puppy love's house boy who does his masters bidding. Nagarika Hitarakshana Samiti also voted for bjp and now they are getting MODI ka tu**u. I will be happy if the prices of train fares reach high , price of onions remain high, price of vegetables remain high. They don’t want the locals to eat beef so that fekus can export beef to middle east there they get commission. But in spite all this there will blind supporters who will celebrate.

We need to have patience. Please note taking decision of this sort needs planning and tackling objections when it is announced. It was known from inner circles that the announcement will not be done. Railway Minister is already doing ground work through Railway board for merger from Thokkotu to Ullala Railway station to KRCL. Also announcement of these decisions can be done at any time and bugget is not required since there is no financial obligation.Railway Minister has already posted Mrs.Sudha Krishnamurthy as Manager PRO - KRCL in Mangalore# Also it has been decided that Karwar region will be moved to Mangalore and Head office of KRCL will be moved to Madgoan from Belapur#Also KRCL will have limits upto Subramanya Road which is currently with SWR# Please note Mallikrauun Kharge announced Gulbarga division after the Railway budget with silence and proper planning and necessary approval#Please note I'm not a DVS supporter or a BJP supporter#I'm only a Railway fan and ardent supporter of moving Mangalore fCentral and Mangalore Junction from the clutches of Southern Railway#UPA had two Railway Ministries from Karnataka but it could not be implemented due to many issues like pressure from Kerala Politicians and negative approach from our so called powerfull politicians like Oscar Fernandis, Verappa Moliy, Jnaradhan Poojary etc
