Panaji, Jul 28: The Goa Football Association (GFA) has roped in Portuguese coach Pedro Rui Manuel Soares to train the state's U-21 team for the first Lusofonia Games to be held in Macau in October.

GFA secretary Savio Messias said Pedro (33), hailing from Algavre, has taken charge of his wards yesterday and will start the training camp for the Macau tournament next week.

Messias said Pedro's appointment is only for the Lusofonia games, as he has been specially assigned to oversee preparation for the prestigious event.

Earlier, Pedro was adjunct and goalkeeper coach in the senior level men football team of the sports club of Estareja.

In the competitive season 2000 to 2003, he was the head coach in the youth level (formative years) of the sport and recreational centre of Vadega, which had competed for the championship of the football association of Aveiro.
