Bangalore: Sadananda Gowda's smile broadens; Ananth Kumar sidelined?

Daijiworld Media Network - Bangalore (NM)

Bangalore, May 29: The induction of former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet with a juicy portfolio and the allocation of a relatively less significant portfolio to BJP national chief secretary Ananth Kumar, might have come as a surprise to many. There are also reports of some resentment among the BJP members.

D V Sadananda Gowda (DVS) has been allocated the ministry of railways and prominent BJP leader from Karnataka, Ananth Kumar, who has been elected to the Parliament for the sixth time, has to be satisfied with the portfolio of chemicals and fertilizers.

For BJP leaders and party workers, Ananth Kumar was an influential candidate at the national level. But as it turns out, this was not the case with the BJP high command and it was evident during the swearing-in ceremony of the new cabinet members. On Monday May 26, it was plain for all to see that Ananth Kumar was less prominent in comparison to DVS, suggesting that the former has been sidelined at the national level.

"These developments have brought back those who had distanced themselves from Gowda. The former chief minister, who was limited to Dakshina Kannada and Udupi constituencies, has emerged as a state and national leader enjoying strong Vokkaliga support. Besides, the difference between the Gowda of coastal region and the Gowda of Bangalore is slowly vanishing. All this has come as a heavy blow to Ananth Kumar and former deputy chief minister R Ashok, who enjoyed strong support in the Bangalore municipal region," said a senior BJP leader who did not want to be named.

Known as an ardent supporter of L K Advani, it was widely understood that Ananth Kumar would face hard times politically if Modi came to power. The reason - Ananth Kumar was part of the team which relieved Modi from the core BJP team many years ago.

However, soon after the announcement of Modi as the Prime Ministerial candidate, Ananth Kumar had shifted loyalties from Advani to Modi. During the Lok Sabha election, Ananth Kumar campaigned in the name of Modi. His actions suggested that he would bag a prime portfolio in Modi’s cabinet.

There were indications of DVS emerging as a favorite during the visit of Narendra Modi to Bangalore to address the campaign rally. Both Ananth Kumar and DVS shared the dais, but the latter spent a lot of time in conversation with Modi while Ananth Kumar sat mute.

All these developments have helped DVS sport a broader smile than Ananth Kumar!

Ananth Kumar defends

Probably stung by speculations that he was being sidelined, a defiant Ananth Kumar told media persons on Wednesday May 28 that his portfolio was in no way less important than others. "Four former Prime Ministers have held the chemicals and fertilisers portfolio," he said.

Speaking after taking charge of his ministry, Ananth Kumar said, "All players are equal in a cricket team. For me, the important thing is that I have got an opportunity to be part of Modi's team. My portfolio is not of low rank, four former Prime Ministers have previously held this post. Hence, it is not correct for the media to say that Ananth Kumar has not been given a good portfolio."

Since I am not associated with any political party in India, but looking at different political candidates of their loyalty and trouble shooting history, I have a lot of respect for our new Railway Minister.

He has a charismatic smiling face.

While he was systematically kicked off from the PM's job in Karnataka, he didn't do anything to undermine the party, but kept the same loyal mood towards the party.

Above all, how he handled the cases against the Christians who were trapped in the legal entrapment? How many times the Bishops and the Christian leadership of Karnataka approached Mr. Yeddyurappa, did he try to solve it?

But Mr. Mr. Sadananda Gowda took immediate actions to solve that problem. He is a peace-maker and deserve the cabinet job as the Railway Minister. Congratulations and all the best wishes.

With Modi holding the reigns of all these ministers tightly in his own hand and already a warning issued against any favouritism (Involves corruption) these ministers and their subordinates are not sure whether they should feel happy on their appointments or give up the appointments now itself..!!!
I am beginning to like whatever Modi has said and is trying to implement and wait to see it's implementation by all concerned -
Will all adhere to what Modi is asking them to...!!!?
Chances of unrest in the coming months?
I hope not - we need a stable Government.

Article and few people are commenting too much on Gowda's smiling face.... Some even commented he should not smile on train accident site....

To clarify all your doubt, the smile of Sadananda Gowda is given by god. We are not supposed to question it. God has given some kind of shape to all of us. That is not for others to laugh and criticise.

Surprising is the Rahul Gandhi's smile to the nation immediately after the election result, where his party was settled to 44.

In India the Defence, Finance, Home, Foreign, Agriculture, Industry, Commerce and Railways are crucial portfolios and the ministers holding them remain in the limelight during the tenure of any Govt. Among these agriculture is the least wanted. It may be recalled that Mamta didi demanded railways for supporting NDA and later UPA. Even Laluji demanded the same portfolio while joining UPA. Since the country possesses the third largest railway network in the world, this ministry has become more lucrative.

As of now,I believe Mr. Modi chose the right man for the right job. Considering his past record, Mr. DVS deserves it.

Rumour has it that Modi was against taking Ananth Kumar to Cabinet as he does not have a clean image and was susceptible to corruption. Ananth Kumar even lobbied hard for Railways. However, end result was Ananth Kumar got not that important portfolio and Gowda was handed over the Railways. Moreover, Gowda's quality (loyal and malleable) was much appealing. Looks like Anant Kumar will have to do something good and eye catching to earn a better place in Modi cabinet.

Apart from importance of portfolio, if anybody wants to work for the welfare of the people of any Nation, they will work anywhere and anyhow…. But looking at the personality of DVS, I think he can’t survive in Railway for long since it is very big mafia and a simple straight forward person like DVS can’t stay there for long. But contrarily, Ananth Kumar too will not stay with that portfolio for long because it doesn’t suit his personality too. So, I fear at the end, both PortFolio may go out from Karnataka within one or two years

I am telling you, don't get in to these controversies please. People kept faith on your party as well as Modi's leadership. Don't spoil it by raising all these stupid issues. What ever be the sector given, do justify to the position. Forget which is best which is better and all. there will be a lot of evil minds which will try to panic and provoke you. Don't get in to any of these.

Just accept the responsibility given by your own superiors and do justify. Rest will be taken care. As a team you should prove that you have done something better than previous, I would say routine governments. Let this Modi lead team be an ever remembering one in Indian history and emerge India as one of the super country in the world.
