Bolt to run in Poland for first time

Kingston (Jamaica), May 24 (IANS/CMC): Jamaican sprint star Usain Bolt will run in Poland for the first time when he competes in the fifth edition of the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial in August.

The reigning World and Olympic double sprint champion will join some of Poland’s finest athletes for the Aug 23 meet, including two-time Olympic shot put champion Tomasz Majewski and world hammer silver medallist, Anita Wlodarczyk, reports CMC.

Bolt said he was keen on the new experience.

“I’m looking forward to running in Poland for the first time,” the 27-year-old Jamaican said.

“I have never raced in a football stadium before so that will be something new and unique. I like to support new events and help grow the sport all over the world.”

The meet, staged in memory of Polish hammer thrower Kamila Skolimowska who won gold at the 2000 Olympics, will take place at the newly-laid track in Warsaw’s National Stadium.

Skolimowska, the youngest ever Olympic hammer champion, died five years ago at age 26 during a training camp in Portugal.
