FIFA to release last-minute World Cup tickets

Rio de Janeiro, May 24 (IANS): Football's governing body FIFA will offer fans their last chance to attend the World Cup by releasing a final batch of tickets June 1.

In a briefing with Brazilian media Friday, FIFA's marketing director Thierry Weil said an undetermined number of seats would go on sale at venue ticketing centres, reported Xinhua.

"We had to hold on to 7 percent of seats that were installed after (the last sales phase)," Weil was quoted saying by O Globo. "We are currently looking to see how many tickets we can sell."

Weil reiterated FIFA's warning to fans about scalpers.

The body earlier said those who purchased tickets from unauthorized sellers would be denied entry.

"Are we going to stop all the ticket touts?" Weil said in comments published on FIFA's official website. "Probably not. But we've been very successful in terms of selling World Cup tickets on the internet.

"My advice is not to take risks. Don't buy tickets in the black market. If we find out, you'll be stopped and will be prevented from entering the stadiums."
