Six players found overage in sub-junior hockey

New Delhi, May 23 (IANS): Hockey India (HI) Friday found six Haryana players overage during the fourth Sub-Junior National Men Championship being played in Ranchi.

A total of eight players went under the scanner but six were found overage after an independent medical test. They were immediately disqualified from the tournament, HI said in a statement.

The players are Dilawar Singh, Pardeep Kumar, Jasbir Antil, Amit Deshwal, Ravi Singh and Amit Kapoor.

HI president Mariamma Koshy said it is highly discomforting to see these youngsters taking the wrong route.

"Hockey India has a no-tolerance level for such unpleasant incidents and the team manager has been told to ensure the return of these six players back to their state, immediately. This shall come as an example for others and hope no such occurrence will be witnessed in future," she said.

The matter will now be investigated by the the disciplinary committee for review and action.
