Police complaint against Modi over poll code violation

Ahmedabad, April 30 (IANS): Gujarat Police Wednesday registered a complaint against BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for violating the model code of conduct, an official said here.

The complaint was lodged at the Ahmedabad City police station.

The action followed a directive from the Election Commission after the opposition Congress raised objections to a press conference addressed by Modi after casting his vote at the Ranip polling station in Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

After voting, Modi flashed a paper 'lotus', the Bharatiya Janata Party's symbol, and addressed a press conference a short distance from the polling station which the Congress alleged was a violation of the election code.

Similar complaints were lodged against some TV channels that had telecast Modi's press conference from the venue.
