Egypt court lists Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis as terrorist group

Cairo, April 14 (IANS): A court in Egypt Monday ruled that the Al Qaeda-inspired Ansar Bayt al-Maqdis be listed as a terrorist organisation.

As one of the most active militant groups in Egypt, the group, whose name means "Worriers of Jerusalem" in English, has claimed responsibility for most of the attacks on Egyptian police and military in Sinai and Nile Delta cities since the ouster of Islamist president Mohamed Morsi last July, Xinhua reported citing the state-run Nile TV.

The Islamist militant group, which is based in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, has recently been blacklisted by the United States as "a foreign terrorist group".
