Australia depart for ICC Women's World T20

Melbourne, March 15 (IANS): The Australian cricket team departed Saturday for the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

The Meg Lanning-led team will be seeking their third straight World T20 in Bangladesh. Australia enter the tournament as the reigning title holders and are looking to be the first team, male or female, to win three straight trophies.

The tournament's group stage will be held in Sylhet. As with previous tournaments, the semi-finals and the final will be played as double-headers with the men’s equivalent matches at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.

The 10 competing nations have been divided into two groups with 20 matches in pool stages and the top two teams from each group qualifying for the semis.

The tournament kicks off March 23.
