South Africa need 39 to win at tea


Durban, Dec 30 (IANS): India stared at a series defeat as South Africa, batting on 19 for no loss at tea on Day 5, needed only 39 runs to win the second and final cricket Test at Kingsmead here Monday.

Earlier, India were bowled out for 223 in the post-lunch session -- Ajinkya Rahane top scoring a career best of 96 -- leaving South Africa needing 58 runs to win the match and the series.

Skipper Graeme Smith (5 not out) and Alviro Petersen (14 not out) were at the crease when tea was called.
