  • Eleven days after he was shot at by his younger brother Praveen, fifty six year old Pramod Mahajan passed away at the Hinduja Hospital in Mumbai.

Mumbai, May 3: Senior BJP leader Pramod Mahajan's condition has deteriorated as he suffered from multiple organ failure, and the doctors have enhanced support levels to "quite an extent as of now".

Mahajan had been on ventilatory, ionotropic and dialysis support for the past few days
 
Earlier, talking to newsmen in Mumbai, Dr Anupam Verma, director of the PD Hinduja Hospital, said that as of now, the overall condition was quite critical.

He said that lots of things “are being taken care of by the doctors. In totality, the picture has deteriorated since yesterday."

To a query whether the blood pressure was under control, he said "total scenario has slightly changed".

The Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS) has worsened, he said.

Mahajan, who was shot and critically injured by his younger brother Pravin on 22nd April, has undergone three surgeries in the last 11 days.
 
As his condition slipped from bad to worse, Mahajan's family members were allowed to visit him at the ICU.


Following the news of the deterioration in Mahajan’s condition, many prominent leaders, cutting across partylines visited thesenior BJP leader's family at the hospital.

BJP leader Sushma Swaraj was already in Mumbai while BJP President Rajnath Singh cut short his trip to Doda in Jammu region and left for Mumbai.

Former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee also proceeded to the metropolis.

BJP leader L K Advani broke his Bharat Suraksha yatra and reached Mumbai.

 Former CM Vilasrao Deshmuk, S S Ahulwalia remained in conclave inside the hospital with party national spokesman Prakash Javadekar and State BJP president Nitin Gadkari.

Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray, accompanied by his son and Party Executive President Uddhav Thackeray, his estranged nephew and president of newly-floated Maharashtra Navnirman Sena Raj Thackery and his wife met the anguished family of the BJP leader.

Bal Thackeray's daughter-in-law Smita Thackeray also visited Mahajan's family.
