Mangalore, Apr 6: The veterinary doctor appointed by Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) for Kudroli slaughter house reported back to duty on Wednesday April 5 after being on holiday for 3 days.

After his arrival he examined 8 bulls and permitted to be to slaughtered.  However, as per the rules, the cattle once permitted by the vet can be slaughtered only after 24 hours.  However, Thursday April 6 being Ram Navami, it has been decided not to slaughter cattle.  This means that the slaughter house will be kept closed even on Friday April 6.

The slaughter has been kept closed for the last 3 days.  Earlier MCC had issued an order to stop cattle slaughter for two days in the absence of the vet.  But the certain organizations which have been running the slaughter house in the name of Rajesh Shetty had demanded that slaughter house should be closed even on Friday on vies of Ram Navami.  They had even requested not to send the doctor to the slaughter house on Thursday.  But the vet reported back to the duty after he was instructed so in a meeting at Bunder police station on Tuesday night which was attended by deputy director of animal husbandry department, health officer of MCC and meat vendors.

On the other hand beef price has gone upto Rs 80 per each kilogram in the city.  If the slaughter house continues to be closed in this manner, soon the price may touch Rs 100 too, said some sources.
