The situation was under control with people receiving timely treatment and many of them have been discharged, Shingare said.

More than 220 patients have been admitted with gastro symptoms in various city hospitals since the past week, mainly from Crawford Market area. Since then, several have been discharged.

All of them complained of diarrohoea and vomiting, two common gastro symptoms.

The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) Health Department officials have said that the possible cause of gastro was contaminated water-supply.
