Mid-Day

Mumbai, Mar 7: “Nobody loves me…not even my parents, my family. That’s why I took poison” — this confession from Kiran Laljee Verma (16) took staffers at Ghatkopar’s Rajawadi Hospital by surprise on Sunday night as the teenager pleaded for medical attention.

A student of Gurukul Vidyalaya, Ghatkopar, Kiran walked into the hospital at 12.15 am, dressed in her school uniform.

The hospital guard found her loitering in the premises and took her to the doctors after she claimed she had consumed poison.

While the doctors started treatment, the hospital authorities lodged a complaint with the police. Kiran claimed she is a resident of Chembur, but refused to disclose her parents’ identities.

“She also refused to give us any contact numbers… she claimed her family has no telephone connection. Not even her neighbours have a phone, she claimed,” informed a police official.

While the hospital is taking care of her health, the staffers are suspicious of Kiran’s statement to the police.

“It is surprising that the girl was wearing a school uniform on a Sunday. It’s also surprising how she reached the hospital so late in the night,” observed a staff member.
