Beltangady, Feb 22: Seven persons have been arrested with regard to the group clashes in Ujire near here on Monday February 20 night.

As reported earlier two groups representing two different communities were involved in clashes in the Ujire market area on Monday night.  While 8 persons were injured, one shop, one STD booth and a car were damaged in the clashes.

Both the parties had lodged complaint in the Beltangady police station in this regard.  Accordingly the police arrested Mahesh Shetty, Sudhakar, son of Eishwar Naik, Bhaskar, Dose Ravi, Harish, Sudhakar, son of Ramanna Gowda and Sathish on Tuesday February 21 based on a complaint lodged by Ashraf.  All the arrested are the residents of Ujire.

On the other hand, the police have also arrested Ashraf, son of Abdul Rehman, Latif and Hanif, son of Khadri Beary as per the complaint filed by Sudhakar.

Meanwhile Jaleela (28), wife of Kasim, Nazeer (16), son of Abdul Khadar, Imran (16), son of Hameed, Ashraf (25), son of Abdul Khadar, Ismail (25) and Abubakkar who were injured in the incident have been admitted to Benaka Hospital at Ujire.

After the incidents on Monday night, tension prevailed in Ujire on Tuesday too.  However, additional police force has been appointed on duty along with Reserve Police Force and Anti Naxal Force.

Shop Set on Fire by Miscreants

Possibly taking advantage of the group clashes, some miscreants set a fancy store owned by one Venkappa on fire on Monday late night on TB Road at Ujire.

The miscreants spread kerosene inside Usha Fancy and General Store and then set it on fire.  But the locals immediately succeeded in extinguishing fire.  However, some wooden things and a showcase within the shop have been gutted.
