Mangalore, Feb 20: Could this be called a coincidence or pre-planned hooliganism?

Within a week of BJP's coming into power in the state, 3 restaurants serving beef have been ransacked and people being assaulted.

Maybe the party has nothing to do with it after all.  But the bottomline is that a few persons have begun to take law into their hands with a hope that the present government would support their cause.

After two similar incidents, one each in the city and Bantwal,  ruffians claiming to represent some fundamental Hindu organizations and are hell-bent on inciting communal riots, have reared their ugly head once again.  This time they ransacked Santosh Bar and Restaurant, reportedly owned by Alwyn Menezes, for serving beef on Saturday February 18 night.

As in the earlier cases, two persons came to the restaurant posing as customers and enquired for some beef item.  After the waiter told them that the item asked by them was available, they asked for a takeaway package for them.  As the waiter went in, both the persons went outside and brought some more persons along with them.

Thereafter, they started damaging the restaurant, flinging the furniture and bottles of alcohol around.  They also damaged the tubelights and fans in the restaurant.  Moreover, they assaulted the owner Alwyn Menezes with a bottle.

After the incident, the culprits fled the place on a vehicle. Though some people tried to follow them on another vehicle, it was not possible.

A complaint has been filed in the Urwa police station in this regard.

In the meantime, the restaurant owners said that he suffered a loss of Rs 20,000 owing to this incident.
