Dubai, Feb 11: Billawas Dubai, one of leading cultural forums of Tulunadu community, celebrated its 2nd successful Annual Sports Day on Friday, February 10, 2006 in the Emirates English Speaking School, Dubai.



President of Billawas Dubai Umesh Kuckian along with Manohar Thonse and Shodhan Prasad of Abu Dhabi Billawa Balaga inaugurated and declared the sports event open.

A one-minute silence was observed over the sad demise of his highness H.H. Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of United Arab Emirates and ruler of Dubai before start of the event.


Lighting of the torch was executed by Shodhan Prasad and Manohar Thonse and flagging of the torch by Jagannath Bellare and Deepa Jagannath Bellare who were the champions of Billawas Dubai sports meet –2005.
 
Yogitha Salian, Madhav Poojary and Umesh Kuckian were the masters of the ceremony through the day.


The full-day sports festival was filled with entertainment with games for girls, women, boys and men with events ranging from the simple marble and spoon race, Chocolate race, Shot Put, Three-legged race, Human wheelbarrow, One-legged race, 50, 100, 200 metres race to Relay, in which an active participation of the Billawas was seen.
 
All the arrangements pertaining to the event were very well taken care of by the Billawas Dubai members, and a delicious lunch was served to everyone at 1.00 pm.


The events concluded at 5.00 pm and and the prize distribution and a raffle draw followed immediately. President of Billawas Dubai Umesh Kuckian signed off the event with a vote of thanks. He thanked each and everyone, especially Billawas from Abu Dhabi for making this event a grand success. He also stressed on the unity among the community, to help in the upliftment of the poor and the needy.


Manohar Thonse of Billawa Balaga, Abu Dhabi praised the members for puttin up a successful event and also congratulated the participants.


Leading Billawa businessmen sponsored all the prizes for the event.
