The renovation work has transformed the temple to its present grandeur and is now in the list of famous temples in Dakshina Kannada.

BRIEF HISTORY:

Shree Brahma Baidarkala Garadi, Kankanady is one of the famous medieval religious centers of undivided Dakshina Kannada, which has an significant cultural history of 133 years. The twin cultural hero’s Koti-Chennaya who lived in the 17th century is considered as the two eyes of Billawa community.

They instilled this backward community with moral courage and confidence in their blood and thereby made remarkable achievements in identifying this community in the history. Kanakanady Garadi is one among more than 230 Garadies of Tulunadu and outside, got the ritual status amongst them, in which Koti-Chennaya are worshipped in the form of “Baidyer”, along with their deity Brahma (Bermer). According to the Astamangala (Astrology) question in “Enmur” in the year 1985,Koti-Chennaya’s were born in 1594 and died (During the Enmur War) in 1629 A.D. They were born in Padumale of Puttur taluk and died in Enmur of Sullia, where their Adi (Native) Garadi Exists.

Their “Samadhi” is still there in Enmur.

Billawa Community is one among the Socially, Educationally and Religiously downtrodden communities. Being born in Billawa community, the Koti-Chennaya’s fought against Social injustice of all and brought about the social status of the community and were worshipped by all irrespective of caste and religion.

Mijaru Garadi is one such Garadi of Dakshina Kannada. In the history, some elder representatives of the villages like Bajal, Alape, Kanakanady, Jeppu and Maroli went to offer their prayers at Mijaru. On there return along with the Prasadam of areca flower and handful of mud from the Kshethra, they felt as if two children are following them. They thought that somebody from “Nema” (Pooja) are coming back like them. Even when they slowed down, the children were seen at the same distance. The representative returned home and slept. The next day when they got up, a surprise was awating them. The paddy, which was kept at their home, was sprout. They went to a astrologer and it was confirmed that Koti-Chennaya’s came with them, pleased by their devotion.

According to the Abhaya of the ‘Baidya’s, it was told that there is the Suryanarayan God in the east and in the west of Kankanady village, there is a place were the cow and the tiger play together. It is the places were Koti-Chennay’s should live protecting the five villages. Acoordingly the elders of five villagers built a temple and started worshiping.
