Mangalore, Feb 9: 'Bunti Aur Bubli' , which turned out to be one of the most-talked-about Hindi films, might have inspired this couple that has been conning people in Mangalore and Bangalore. The DK District Crime Investigation Bureau got another feather in its cap by nabbing this couple in Mysore on Feb 8.

It may be recalled that it was the same couple that looted the apartment of the D'Cunha family at Bendore.

The DCIB led by K Tilakchandra identified the car used by the duo and traced its owner in Mysore who helped in nabbing this notorious couple.

Vinod B Sharma alias Akshay B Sharma alias Johnson aged  (31), son of Bhopendra Kumar Sharma, Bangalore and Kalyani Parida alias Kalyani Sharma alias Julie aged 30, daughter of Parikshit Parida of Nasik, Maharashtra, were nabbed in Mysore and gold and silver ornaments and other valuables have been seized from them.

Briefing the press on this major achievement, SP DK B Dayananda said that TATA Indica used by the duo, two mobile phones, gold and silver jewellery and valuables (including a dagger) worth Rs 6.42 lac were confiscated from the couple.

The accused have been involved in several theft cases executed in a similar fashion and cases have been booked since 2002 in places like Fraser Town, Ashoknagar, Cox Town and White Field, Bangalore.

Vinod, whose father is a Rajput and mother a Goan Christian, is a bachelor in Hotel Management and has worked in several states. He married Kalyani whom he met and fell in love with in Orissa. They had three children and had settled in Bangalore.

Pretending to be from a rich family, the couple in the most tactful manner looted houses. Their presentation and fluency in several languages made them win over their prey easily.

In 2005, they travelled to Mysore. On January 26, 2006 they reached Mangalore and checked into Hotel Summer Sand. Akshay Sharma, owner-driver of the tourist vehicle, by now was convinced that the couple were rich and on request offered them his car for a week's time and returned to Mysore. It was here that the couple tricked the D'Cunha family, the SP explained.

The DCIB, which traced the car owner in Mysore, laid a trap for the couple, which was made to meet Akshay in Mysore.
Jewellery worth Rs 53,000, which was sold in Banglaore, was also recovered. A total of 296 grammes of jewellery has been confiscated. The accused have  eight cases of thefts booked in Bangalore against them.

DCIB team consisted of Parameshwarappa, Narayan Maniyani, Seetaram, Ganesh, Vishwanath, Ashok, Harish Padavinangady, Bhaskar, Subramanya, Giriyappa, Vivekanand and drivers S K Shetty and Devayya.

Impressed with this landmark achievement, former MLC Octavia Albuquerque had offered Rs 1,000 to the DCIB from her pension account.
