Udupi, Feb 9: The Brahmavar police have filed chargesheet in the Padma alias Gopi Poojarti murder case of Brahmavar near here.

The chargesheet has been filed in the Udupi District Court in which 3 persons have been named as accused and 56 persons as witnesses.

Former taluk panchayat member Dhananjay Amin has been named as the first accused while Prashant Shetty of Ambalpady and Imtiaz of Kukkikatte are the two co-accused.  Earlier, a complaint was filed in the Brahmavar police station by Padma's brother Gopal Poojary in this regard. 

The police have also recovered the motorcycle, two cellphones and 4 bullets used for the murder.  While the prime accused Dhananjay Amin has obtained anticipatory bail from the court, the police have already arrested Imtiaz and have produced him before the court.  However, the third accused Prashant Shetty has been absconding ever since.

Padma was shot dead allegedly by Imtiaz and Prashant Shetty near charcoal factory at Matpady near Brahmavar here on October 10 evening.  She was on her way home with her brother Gopal after attending the court proceedings in the Rony murder case.

It may be recalled that Padma was the prime accused in the Rony Rebello murder case.  Padma’s henchmen had killed Rony in the month of June on Brahmavar - Kokkarne Road.
