Mangalore, Feb 8: Six persons were injured and admitted to hospital in connection with the group clashes at Faisalnagar here on Tuesday February 7 night.

The group clashes started after one Nawaz, a fish vendor, was assaulted by Vijaynagar residents Prakash, Prashant and others at Vijaynager on Tuesday morning.  The assault was owing to some personal rivalry.  However, the youth from the other community pelted stones and assaulted Nagesh Pai and Diwakar who were going home at Faisalnagar on Tuesday night.  In the meantime, a group of persons came to Prakash's house in the night and asked him to come out his house so that they cas solve the case amicably.

As soon as the news about the series of assault spread across Bajal and Faisalnagar areas, people started gathering in groups.  But the timely intervention by the police, prevented a major communal clash.

In the meantime a group of few young men of a particular community stopped the route no 23 (St Anthony) bus at Pumpwell Circle here around 10 pm and pulled out Siddiq and Akram from the bus and stabbed them.  When Akram fled the place, 3 persons chased him and assaulted with sickle and wooden club.

As a result Akram has sustained serious injuries on his ribcage, hands and thighs.  He has been admitted to a private hospital in the city.

Already 5 complaints have been filed by both the sides in Mangalore rural and Kadri police stations.  While Nagesh Pai, Diwakar and Prakash have filed complaints in the Mangalore rural station, Nawaz and Akram have filed two cases in the Kadri police station.

Police have camped themselves in Faisalnagar and Bajal areas with SP B Dayanand staying overnight and monitoring the security.
