Udupi, Feb 4: The National Highway 17 seems to be thirsty for blood.  Fatal accidents on the said highway have become more often than rare.  A single thought of driving a vehicle on the National Highway 17 is indeed a nightmarish experience.  Such is the frequency of fatal accidents on the highway is that a day without any accidents is a rare phenomenon indeed.

The accident at Manoor near Kota of Brahmavar here on Friday February 3 is just one more example to the reckless driving.  Chandrashekhar Mayya (50) was riding his bicycle when a Maruti car from Kerala on its way to Mumbai rammed into the bicycle from behind.  As a result he died on the spot.

One Nikhil of Kerala who is employed in a private company in Mumbai was on his way to Mumbai along with is wife who is on her family way.  The impact of the accident was such that, the bicycle even went and hit a pedestrian Krishna Marakala of Giliyar.  He too was injured and was admitted to the nearby hospital.

It could have well be a hit-and-run case as the car did not stop after the accident.  However, the police were able to stop the car near Gangolli after a long chase.  The Kota police have registered a case in this regard.
