Mangalore, Jan 31: Addressing a press conference here recently, Paramananda Salian said that the residents of Iddya near Suratkal here, though in favour of the proposed four-lane national highway 17 from NITK Suratkal to BC Road, were against its irregularities being committed in the process.  He said that a highway signifies a wide road with minimum curves, but the proposed highway did not adhere to this.

He suggested that a flyover could be more practicable at Honnakatte where heavy transport vehicles could be diverted towards MRPL, resulting in ease of traffic congestion in Suratkal city, as against the constructing of a one-way flyover from Govindadas College to Suratkal police station, which would cause a major congestion of traffic.  Also, there is a need for a subway to ensure the safety of students, where three educational institutions are proposed to be constructed.

Ramakrishna Poojary, president, MRPL Evacuees' Association, on behalf of the association and the residents of the concerned area demanded that land be acquired on both sides of the existing centerline to overcome many problems.
