Mysore, Jan. 28: The Superintendent of Central Jail here had decided to release 12 inmates, who were serving life sentences, on the occasion of Republic Day.

Out of them four persons could not be released as they were unable to pay fines imposed on them.

One of them was Shivaram of Madikeri on whom lady luck smiled yesterday.

Following newspaper reports about the predicament of the four unfortunate inmates, Fr. Raju of Basel Church in Hunsur approached the Jail Superintendent and paid the fine of Rs. 7,000 on behalf of Shivaram.

After the release, the priest took Shivaram along with him, according to Jail Superintendent Vishwanathaiah.

It is learnt that Fr. Raju has permitted Shivaram to stay in the Ashram located in the church premises.
