Beltangady, Jan 28: No wonder that today's education lacks values.  The moral and social values that should accompany the education have been fast disappearing from the education system.  This has had its worse impact on the society as the students when they come out of the school or colleges seem to be like coming out of a routine habit or exercise than a system, which moulds their life.  Most of the teachers who should lead from the front are themselves a lost lot. They themselves lack moral and social values, which form the life of a human.

This teacher of Neriya Higher Primary School here is a perfect example for this kind of teachers to whom teaching is a mere profession and not vocation.  Timmayya Gowda (38), a resident o Beejattadi and teacher at the Neriay higher primary school on Thursday January 26, was arrested by Beltangady police and was produced before the court on charges of sexually harassing a female student.

Upon being in the court, he was granted bail by the court.  It is stated that Timmayya had asked two students to stay back in the classroom while others were left out for games period.  As both the students were waiting for him, he summoned them to his room and then asked one of them to go home.  Then he said to the other student that she had not done well in the examination and that he would give special classes to her.  With this he is said to have sexually harassed her.

The incident however did not come to light for another couple of days during which the student did not come to the school.  When her parents enquired her as why she did not go to the school, she elaborated the entire tale to them, who in turn lodged a complaint against the teacher.

Accordingly, the police arrested Timmayya Gowda on Thursday before producing him before the court, where he was granted bail.
