Georgetown (Guyana), July 23 (IANS/CMC): The youngest player in the Guyana Amazon Warriors says he is confident his team can walk away with the title honours in the inaugural Caribbean Premier League (CPL).

Trevon Griffith also says he wants to play a significant part in securing the title by lifting his game during the tournament which bowls off next week, reports CMC.

The 22-year old also plans to use the tournament to put to rest doubts about his form.

“I am definitely coming to play,” said Griffith.

“I plan to display my best abilities and make my contribution to the Guyana Amazon Warriors and consequently to the entire league but I’m also hoping to advance my career and entertain fans throughout the Caribbean."

The left-hander, often described as ‘pugnacious’, shot to prominence in 2009 as the top scorer in the TCL Group West Indies Challenge Tournament.

He amassed 406 runs at an average of 40, even scoring a century against the Leeward Islands on his home ground.

“I always take delight in representing my country at any level of cricket and because this is the first ever CPL tournament, it will serve as a major benefit to me as a player,” Griffith said.

Griffith has already been getting a lot of attention from selectors and fans alike.

He is expected to be backed by a posse of excited supporters, including his family, when the Amazon Warriors face the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel July 31.

“My family is always supportive of every step I take in life," he said.

"They are all incredibly proud that I have been chosen to play in the CPL and plan to give me a lot of encouragement throughout the tournament.”

Matches in Guyana will take place July 31, Aug 2 and 4.
