Mumbai, Jun 4: Director-producer Karan Johar loves to experiment. After having given Bollywood several blockbuster hits, and trying his hand at acting too, he is now going to don the role of a villain.

Johar, who had made guest appearances in 'Luck by Chance' and 'Om Shanti Om', will play a negative role in 'Bombay Velvet' t be directed by Anurag Kashyap.

Johar is all excited about the role. "Yes, I am playing a role in Bombay Velvet. I was highly impressed with the script, and my role is specially thrilling as it has many shades to its character. Though acting, that too in a negative role is unusual for me, I am excited about it," he said.

'Bombay Velvet' is a period film, a thriller based on incidents that took place in the 1960s. Ranbir Kapoor is playing the lead role.

Though it is the first full-fledged role for Karan Johar, acting is not new to him. He made his first appearance on screen in DDLJ some 15 years ago as Sharukh Khan's buddy in London, and has since worked in a few more movies. He is best known for directing family-based movies.

Johar is clear that on the sets of the new movie, he will follow the director's instructions and will keep his own directorial instincts at bay.

Kashyap, on his part said that the decision to cast Johar was taken on the spur of the moment, when he had met him to discuss the movie.

"Karan loved the script and on an impulse I just asked if he could play the negative role. He was taken aback but readily agreed," he said.
