US police officers charged for selling drugs

Washington, May 30 (IANS): Five police officers in the US state of Texas have been charged for selling the drugs they seized from drug traffickers.

The men were members of the Panama unit, a joint task force between the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office and the Police Department of the Mission city that targeted street-level drug trafficking in the city, reported Xinhua citing The Houston Chronicle website.

The unit's members sold the drugs they seized to another drug trafficker and escorted drug loads, said prosecutors.

Four of the men pleaded guilty to one count of drug conspiracy while the fifth man pleaded guilty to cocaine possession charge for escorting the drug loads.

If convicted, the men will face sentences between 10 years to life in prison.
