Govt Raises Cap on Supply of Subsidised LPG Cylinders to 9

New Delhi, Jan 17 (PTI) :  The government today raised the cap on supply of subsidised LPG cylinders to nine bottles from six per year and allowed oil companies to hike diesel prices by a "small quantum" periodically.

There will be no change in LPG and kerosene rates, Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily told reporters here after the meeting on Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA).

"I am happy to inform the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs has decided to raise the cap on subsidised LPG to nine cylinders per household in a year from existing six cylinders," he said.

Consumers will get a quota of five subsidised cylinders between September 2012 and March 2013 and from April 1, 2013, they will be entitled to nine cylinders per annum.

Moily said that the oil companies have been permitted to raise diesel prices by a small quantum periodically till such time that they are able to cover Rs 9.60 per litre loss they incur on the fuel.

Refusing to provide details of diesel price increase, Moily said the raise may taken place as early as tonight.

Thank you Mr Moily.. You delivered on your promise.. Hats off to you..

@ Nagesh Nayak: LPG just like any other petroleum product is mostly imported by India, do you not know this. Maybe BJP is capable of sitting on each of the cylinders and filling it themselves..
Wake up dude and be realistic..

Once we are done with 9 cylinders what should we do to cook our food? Will UPA govt supply baked food to the doorstep of every citizen?

CAP should not be there on basic necessities of citizen. Tomorrow your UPA Govt may put cap on drinking water too. You will still support UPA govt blindly. Such a hypocrite you are.

There is nothing to say thanks to the government. Its the basic duty of every government to allow the common citizens of the country to have their food cooked without any much problem.Thats why kerosene oil etc., are treated as essential commodity even today government thinks twice before futting "cap" on supply.LPG "cap" is like creating articial sympathy for govt.Govt also knows that this Congress"cap"becomes costly in the next election. This is just like pinching the child and pacifying it for crying.
