Egypt End India's Dream Run in Women's Squash

Nimes (France), Nov 16 (IANS): Second seeds Egypt ended India's run in the quarterfinals of the WSF Women's World Team Championship squash here with a 3-0 win.

World No.2 Raneem El Weleily and eighth ranked Nour El Sherbini led the Egyptian team's charge while the 10th seeded India, surprise quarter-finalists, had little to offer by way of resistance. India's top brigade had no response to the higher ranked Egyptians going down in straight games Thursday.

It was only in the first game of the first match where Dipika Pallikal was point-for-point with Raneem. From there on, Raneem stepped up the pace and played some flawless drives ensuring Pallikal was scurrying around the court.

In the second singles, Nour El Sherbini too shut the doors on Joshna Chinappa, using her speed and accurate drop to ensure Egypt entered the semis where they take on Australia who upset fourth seeded Hong Kong.

After defeating higher-ranked Ireland and Argentina in the pool stage, India overcame the Netherlands seeded eighth, in the pre-quarter-final.

The other semi-final will be between top seeds England who put out Ireland 3-0 and third ranked Malaysia, the 2-0 winners over New Zealand.

The results (India's match):
(2) Egypt beat (10) India 3-0: Raneem El Weleily bt Dipika Pallikal 16-14, 11-4, 11-7 (31 mins); Nour El Sherbini bt Joshna Chinappa 11-7, 11-6, 11-9 (26 mins); Nour El Tayeb bt Anaka Alankamony 11-6, 11-3 (12 mins) - dead rubber.
