Rain in Australia Match Made the Difference, says Dhoni

Colombo, Oct 3 (IANS): India's captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni blamed the rain intervention in their first Super Eight match against Australia for their ouster from the World Twenty20 Championship.

India beat South Africa by a solitary run here Tuesday but failed to qualify for the semifinal due to Pakistan's superior run-rate.

India, who ended the tournament tied with Australia and Pakistan on four points, needed to restrict South Africa to 121 or less to qualify for the semis after scoring 152 for six.

South Africa lost the match narrowly but put India also out of the tournament by scoring 151 all out in 19.5 overs.

"If you take the Australia game out, where the rain intervened, we performed brilliantly and can't have control over how other teams played," said Dhoni.

Australia had thrashed India by nine wickets and more than five overs to spare.

"Overall I'm quite happy with how the team performed. There were instances where we should have had 10-15 runs more on the board. We lost too many wickets early," Dhoni said talking about the final match against the South Africans.

South African captain was left disappointed by his team's performance in the tournament as they lost all three of the Super Eight matches.

"Disappointed isn't the word to describe it, we've had a poor tournament," AB de Villiers said.

"We've let the country down and that's what hurts most. We did all the preparation possible, we thought we were ready but the guys didn't click," he said.

    Dhoni / Indian Cricket Board

On 28th September 2012 India Vs Australia match why not included Virendra Shewag in eleven players list. If you have any personal problem with him you can take in personal life not in the cricket. Keep in your mind, don’t look any controversy in future games. Indian cricket board should observe this kind of the act from the captain

If you do not have guts play, then blame like Laloo. Why Tiwary & others not given chance instead of Dirty Gambhir, & Old babu Sehwag. They can play only IPL not in cup matches, they are unfit. They have given ors a big sum, so no body cares. We just watch the match like fools. It is fantastic. 11 or 12 guys fooling so many, even ors ????

I beleive the ICC rules make it tough. Team India has really played well except for only one match against Australia. May be the rain cost us there as rightly said by Dhoni. India even after winning 4 out of 5 matches out of the competetion. West Indies by only winning two matches that too with strugle went to semi finals. What a rule?.

TERRORISTS ENTERED SEMIS EASILY BECAUSE OF ROHIT CHARMA. INDAI WAS IN TOUGH SITUATION. HE IS WASTING DOT BALLS IN MIDDLE. WORST UNDERSTANDING FROM ROHIT. HE IS NOT FIT FOR ANY RANAJI TEAM ALSO.

Didn't the rain help Australia? It all depends how we performs. It's a game, when one wins other loses. We should not blame the nature.

VERY SAD WE ARE NOT IN SEMIS. THE MATCH FORMAT SHOULD REVERT, THE RUN RATE FROM FIRST ROUND ALSO TO BE CONSIDERED IN SUPER EIGHT. THEN THERE IS A VALUE OF WINS. OTHERWISE SAME 4 MATCH WINNERS IN SEMIS 5 MATCH WINNERS ARE OUT.

format needs a change.west indies have won only 3 that too 1match in super over and they are through and india after winning 4 are out.similarly in 2007 australlia entered semis after winning only 2 and southafrica couldnt go through after winning 4 matches.also in this all teams who won topped their respective groups in first round were grouped together which is also not right

In this T20 match, Indian players never played a one team but as individual. It is Gauthi, Shewag attitude and non performance by the batsman cost us.
Still from my point of view, Dhoni's captaincy is still remarkable. In spite South African reached above 121, most of the Indian players showed their emotions openly where as Dhoni controlled his emotions and started motivating his team members and faught back.

Dear Dhoni other country don't want INDIA to enter SEMI FINALS or to get up to FINALS.......It was all set by AUSTRIANS get run up to 112 to get them qualify for SEMI FINALS and lose the match & make way for PAK and even second bad factor you LOST the toss if you have won the toss you have asked South African to bat first and then chase them for VICTORY..........any way lots of INDIAN sitting home and watching match got very upset and seen PAKISTANIS celebrating as they have WON THE WORLD CUP........ every dog has the day PAK let AUS or WI take the Cup not for you both.

No doubt there was something fishy to put INDIA out of the tournament. V cant blame on others also coz v must have played better with australia and even v must have thought to score 75 in first 10 with only 2 wickets and then start firing.

Most importantly our inner problems cost us the tournament

The worst player was Rohith Sharma. He is doing his pesonel best by playing slow. The Second Point was Dhoni's Politics in Indian Cricket. He is unfit to lead the team. Because of Dhoni Dinesh Karthik, Mnoj Tiwari, Virender Sehawag, Harbhajan Singh didnt get chance to play enough matches.

    Dear Naveen
It's a fact that they 'fixed' the match. But they called the shots -right? This was because of their earlier emphatic wins. Why should we grudge them that? They wanted the 'strongest teams' out of the competition. They are thinking not from their kidneys but from their brains!! Why should we dependent on other team's performance? We should always mind our own , but we did not and fell into a trap! Pakistan became an indirect beneficiary of this! Australia did exactly what it wanted to because of a thinking and pro-active team management and Captain! We return back empty handed , giving excuses of rain, one bad day, etc etc and there are still takers for this fact- Those who know the intracacies better know where we tripped and trip we did -mate!! No use crying over Australia's strategies now!

NO COMMENTS FOR AUSTRALIA WHY. FROM STARTING WHEN THEY CAME TO BAT THERE MIND ONLY FOR TO REACH SEMI-FINLE. 1, THEY DON'T WANT TO REACH THERE WINNING TARGET. 100% THEY WANT INDIA TOBE OUT OF TOURNAMENT.2, PAKISTANI CAPTAIN HE USED TILL 17TH OVERS FOR SPINNERS. IN THAT SAME WICKET INDIA WANT TO PLAY. WHY HE TOOK 3 PACE BOLWER IN THE TEAM. ALWAYS WE ARE TAKING WINNING TEAM FOR THE NEXT MATCH THAT ONE IS WRONG. THE PITCH IS GIVING A SPIN THEN WHAT IS THE USE TAKE PACE ATTACK. 3, FRONT LINE BATSMAN THEY FORGET TO GIVE A TARGET NEAR 200 THAN WHAT TAILDERS WILL DO? AFTER ALL I SUPPORT WEST-INDIES WANT TO LIFT A WORLD CUP.

L Saldanha all other teams are also looked after quite well by their countries. But only one side will win. It is a game before it is a business. Don't forget that these guys won the real cricket world cup just last year. Remember that even in the game of life you win some, you lose some. That's the way it is. Wonderful job Dhoni!

Lack of team work cost team India. We cannot blame any single individual or captain for the debacle. In super eight, we have beaten Pakistan and strong team like South Africa. Absence of consistent performance by our players are the reasons for loss of semi final berth. We really need genuine allrounders and genuine fast bowlers and world class spinners. We cannot say that we lost the match as Sehwag was sitting out. Everybody has to contribute with bat, ball and field. Team should not depend three or four players. If all eleven contribute, then we don't have any problems. Afterall, it's a game and that too 20-20..One or two good overs make all the difference.

A Bad workman always blames his tools.

The best way to avoid these situations is to win all your games handsomely. Apart from Virat Kohli , Harbajan and Yuvraj most of the others have been flop shows.

Dont depend on other countries to bail you out.Do it yourself.

The Indian team should be paid only if they win matches.Only then will they learn to play hard and win.
They are so used to the adulation, five star hotels, five star travel and the generous salary that they forget the basic reason why they are on the playing field.

We have placed them on a pedestal and treat them like demi gods.

We are the fools in the long run. We only get (defeat) heartaches and the occassional victory.

Rohit Sharma made the difference. Veeru's attitude and Gambhir's lack of form did the difference. Bhajji's exclusion made the difference. Differences within the team made the difference. Thinking from the kidneys made the diference-This in the final matchThe list goes on....
