Dhoni Blames Rain for Humiliating Loss Against Australia

Colombo, Sep 29 (IANS): India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni blamed a short rain-break for his team's humiliating nine-wicket loss against Australia in their first Super Eights match of the World Twenty20 at the Premadasa Stadium here Friday.

"Rain came just at the wrong time. Just after the wicket was rolled. The wet ball is not good for spinners. It was like bowling in England. That was the main reason we lost," said Dhoni.

"We need to analyse what really happened. We got off to a good start, but lost quick wickets, and we were not in a good situation to cash in. We were 20 short," he said.

Dhoni, however, said Australia should get the credit for their dominating performance.

"We need to give them credit for the way they batted, but the ball was not stopping as it did in the first innings. And every time it went into the outfield, the ball got wet. No spinner told me the ball is not wet. It's important to look at what mistakes what we have committed, but it is also important to get it out of the system. we will try to do that, but it will still be there, in some corner of our heart," he said.

Australian captain George Bailey lauded his team for the impressive performance.

"It was impressive performance. We set up India by some good bowling. Patty (Pat Cummins) was outstanding, the best we have seen him bowl in this tournament so far. We were probably behind the eight ball after six overs but we came back very well," he said.

Bailey had words of praise for his openers Shane Watson (72) and David Warner (63 not out), who stitched a massive 133-run opening stand.

"It was an absolute beauty by those two openers. When they are on, there are no better hitters. We have to be up and ready for South Africa," he said.

Watson, man of the match, said he enjoys being an all-rounder.

"The last couple of games have been pretty good. It is nice when things come together like this. Probably batting is a bit more enjoyable, when it is two of you against 11 of the opposition. That's probably more satisfying, but enjoying being an all-rounder," he said.

We should not forget that the same Indian team won the two games in the first round. This was an odd day where we failed. I think we should support the team in the next two games.

When do u blame rain for loss. B a man n say we dint play well.

Please note rain was predicted then y dint u field so when u have 3 spinners.N about sehwag out for crucial match its blunder. Even if he is out for zero till he is out there is fear on the bowlers.
I feel sad mainly coz of some personal problems INDIAn fans got to suffer. Its all coz of dhoni. C mahesh bhupati n bopanna. coz of them v lost a medal in olympics. Now even dhoni must be investegated.

This should be the playing 11 for India, if they want to go any closer to Semi Final!
Sehwag , Gambir, Virat Kholi, Yuvraj, Manoj Tiwar, Raina, MS Doni, Pathan, Harbajan, Zaheer, Balaji, R. Ashwin
I would have preferred Pragyan Ojah in the team instead of Chawla and in playing eleven instead of Balaji.

    What you say ?

pakistanis dont wear bangles in hand while playing..They will give good fight..It is Indians to show they are better off then Pakis.. As far as sachin concerned..he is not playing T20 International for a long time and he is not in the team. Yes Tiwari should come in for Rohit sharma who is useless in fielding and batting now. sewag should open and part times should bowl to cover 5th bowler.

Rain was the not reason for loosing the match, India could add more runs to the board, Bowling was poor, even Irfan pathan did not do well, Australian team opening was superb. If was the squad yesterday india could win the match.

Do not blame the rain.Even if India scored 200 Australia, would have won. There are no threatening fast bowlers in the team.If 19 year old Pat Cummins can threaten the Indian ace batsmen,India shoud think of it.
India lost to Pakistan in warm up match.India struggled against Afghanistan, but won.Kieswetter and Luke Wright did not do well for England.India should not depend on spinners too much.Overconfidence let India down.
Yesterdays bowling performance was weak.Even Bangladesh or Zimbabwe would win with that kind of bowling.
Seems like there is some internal rift in the team.

    @ navee, dubai.

MS DHONI IS A GOOD CAPTAIN. I FEEL HE MUST CONTINUE HIS CAPTAINCY IN ALL 3 FORMATS OF CRICKET. HE DESERVE FOR THAT.

MS IS A GOOD MATCH FINISHER AND MATCH WINNER. HE IS HAVING STRONG SITUATION UNDERSTANDING SKILL AND ABILITY TO PUT PRESSURE ON OPPOSITION. THIS ABILITY WE CAN'T FIND WITH ANY OTHER INDIAN PLAYER.

INDIA LOOSING HERE THAT IS BECAUSE OF OVER CONFIDENCE AND EXTRA EXPERIMENT.

WE HAVE ENOUGH GOOD PLAYERS. WE CAN MAKE 2 INDIAN TEAMS. MS FAILED TO PICK BEST 11 HERE.

I HOPE HE WILL PICK GOOD TEAM TOMMORROW WITH TERRORIST COUNTRY.

BEING KNWOING AUSTRALIAN STRENGTH HE FAILED TO CHOOSE GOOD TEAM. HE IS BELIVING TOO MUCH WITH ROHIT SHRAMA,YUVIRAJ,CHAWLA,ASHWIN,JADEJA. BUT HE IS NOT GIVING CHANCE TO BAJJI,SEHWAG,TIWARI.

AS PER ME ZAHEER,TIWARI,SEHWAG MUST BE IN AND SHOULD PLAY ALWAYS THESE ARE MATCH WINNERS.

    GIVE LONG REST TO YUVI,CHAWALA,ROHIT,SACHIN.

Australians were too good yesterday!!!i feel at the situation and how the wickets fell, india posted a good total. Zaheer was the only bowler who seemed to get wickets. Best of luck, team india for the remaining matches. Australia seems to be a team who will go on to win this t20 world cup, although in t20 we cannot predict anything.

    Dear Mr Dhoni

If you really loves India,, then please resign for T20 and sit in home...you may a lucky captain, but you are a big looser yourself as a batsman !!!.. please leave a place to new comers..... India will never win in future till you plays...
    only one quistion to you...

why patan came to opens India ? It gave psychological boost to bowlers...

why we dont have any openers? Shame one you Dhoni....

If India had won the match, you would have told good decision to play three to four spinners. But now since India is lost, you are telling bad decision to have Chawla and Yuvraj. Chawla bowled well against England. Yesterday all our spinners failed including world class Bhajji and Ashwin. Yesterdays was not the worst team as you mentioned. Sehwag plays once in a blue moon. Virat Kohli failed yesterday after splendid performance in earlier matches as well as Rohit Sharma too failed.

THIS TIME I BLAME ONLY TO TEAM MANAGEMENT AND MS FOR ING WORST TEAM AGAINST STRONG AUTRALIAN.

I AM NOT COMFORATABLE WITH CHAWLA AND YUVRAJ. MANOJ TIWARI WAS GOOD OPTION INSTEAD OF THESE TWO.

THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT TIME TO EXPERIMENT. OVER CONFIDENCE CAUSE DAMAGE HERE.

SEHWAG WAS THE MAIN KEY PLAYER AGAINST AUTRALIANS. INDIA MUST PUT 200 TOTAL AGAINST THEM. WITHOUT SEHWAG INDIA LOOKS VERY WEAK.
