Sabotage Sees Real Madrid Game Postponed

Madrid, Sep 24 (IANS): A Spanish football La Liga match between Rayo Vallecano and Real Madrid had to be postponed after someone sabotaged the electric cables in Rayo's Vallecas stadium.

The Sunday match will now be played Monday night after suspected Rayo supporters, angry at being forced by the club to pay extra money on top of their season ticket price, carried out the act, reports Xinhua.

Both sides wanted to play the match despite the pitch being lit by just three lights in the main stands. But security forces refused to allow fans into the match alleging the lack of light presented a threat.

Cristiana Cifuentes, the security delegate of the Madrid Regional Authority, set a cut off time of 10 p.m. for the sabotaged cables to be repaired. When that did not happen, referee Fernandez Borbalan had to postpone the match.
