New Delhi, Oct 13: India’s growing economic influence and its emergence as an attractive destination for global investment came into focus at an international gathering in Pathankot on Sunday, where former heads of government, political leaders and distinguished personalities discussed innovation, entrepreneurship and youth leadership.
The privately organised event, held under the Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) initiative, brought together former prime ministers from Italy, Romania, Moldova and Slovakia, along with senior international dignitaries and prominent Indian personalities.

Organised by Srijal Gupta, the gathering aimed to promote dialogue on economic development, global cooperation and the role of young people in shaping the future. Speakers highlighted the importance of investment, technological advancement and international engagement in creating opportunities for the next generation.
The programme also featured messages conveyed on behalf of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and former US Vice President and Nobel laureate Al Gore, adding an international dimension to the discussions.
Former Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heger highlighted India’s expanding economic prospects and described the country as a promising destination for investors. Drawing a distinction between accumulating wealth and putting it to productive use, he encouraged individuals and businesses to explore opportunities in India’s rapidly developing economy.
Heger also stressed the importance of international platforms in broadening young people’s perspectives. Such interactions, he said, could expose aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs to global ideas while fostering innovation, leadership and constructive public discourse.
Former British Defence Minister Sir Grant Shapps, another prominent participant, spoke appreciatively of Pathankot’s energy and character. He also referred to the Punjabi roots of former British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, highlighting the longstanding cultural connections between India and the United Kingdom.
Among the Indian dignitaries present were former CBI Special Director and Border Security Force Director General Rakesh Asthana and Supreme Court Bar Association President Pardeep Rai.
Ahead of the programme, several visiting dignitaries travelled to Amritsar to pay their respects at the Golden Temple before proceeding to Pathankot.
The gathering underscored the potential of international dialogue to strengthen cross-border connections, encourage entrepreneurship and inspire India’s next generation of leaders.
