Panaji, Oct 10: Police have registered two FIRs against Taleigao resident Ajit Shankhwalkar for cheating and forgery after a job scam surfaced at the Excise Department on Thursday.

The scam came to light when Manoj Talekar walked into the Panaji excise office claiming that he had been appointed additional excise commissioner. He carried an appointment letter allegedly issued to him by Shankhwalkar.

Excise officials soon realised that Talekar was not the new appointee. An initial police inquiry confirmed that the appointment letter was forged.

Assistant Commissioner of Excise Sanket Sakhardande lodged a complaint alleging that Shankhwalkar had created forged documents dated September 24 and issued them in the name of Excise Commissioner Ashvin Chandru A.

In a separate complaint, Talekar's father, Govind, alleged that Shankhwalkar had promised government jobs to his son Manoj and daughter Manisha in exchange for money.

According to the complaint, Shankhwalkar took Rs 27 lakh for Manoj and Rs 25 lakh for Manisha and supplied forged appointment letters, including one purportedly for the post of deputy director of accounts.
