Nagoya, Sep 26: Indian squash players produced a strong show at the Asian Games as teenager Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh stormed into the women’s and men’s singles finals on Saturday.
Eighteen-year-old Anahat staged a remarkable comeback against Japan’s world No. 6 Satomi Watanabe in the women’s singles semifinal. After trailing 0-2, Anahat fought back to win 9-11, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6, 11-3.
In the men’s singles, Abhay Singh defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan 3-0 in a dominant 35-minute semifinal. He won 11-3, 12-10, 11-6 to book his place in the gold medal match.
Earlier, Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar secured a bronze medal in mixed doubles after losing 2-1 to Hong Kong’s Tang Ming Hong and Lee Ka Yi.
The results add to India’s strong showing in squash at the ongoing Asian Games.
