Manipal, Sep 15: Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), an Institution of Eminence Deemed to be University, hosted a one-day workshop, IP2E360 – “Intellectual Property to Enterprise: A 360-Degree Perspective,” for researchers, innovators and entrepreneurs on September 10. The workshop was organised under MARInE - Manipal Accelerating Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship, an umbrella programme that strengthens MAHE’s research, innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem.
Presiding over the inaugural programme, Dr Sharath K. Rao, vice chancellor, MAHE, emphasised the need to push research beyond knowledge creation and translate it into meaningful outcomes and societal impact. He highlighted the importance of building a strong ecosystem involving academia, industry and alumni to translate intellectual property into innovations that benefit society.
Adv. Swapnil Jayanth Gawande, founder and ceo, BLI Consultancy Pvt. Ltd., Amravati, who served as the chief guest, called upon academic institutions to move beyond increasing patent numbers and to focus on commercialisation and licensing. He emphasised the need to transform research and intellectual property into marketable innovations and revenue-generating assets.
Dr Karunakar A. Kotegar, pro vice chancellor - Technology and Science, MAHE, the guest of honour emphasised the need to move beyond publications and patents by changing protected knowledge into intellectual wealth through innovation and enterprise. He highlighted how these efforts drive societal impact and align with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
A highlight of the inaugural programme was the launch of the Patent Dashboard, developed by Lextria Research. The dashboard will provide patent-related insights and analytics to help researchers and innovators understand, manage and leverage intellectual property more effectively.
The workshop brought together experts and participants to explore various aspects of intellectual property, technology transfer, commercialisation and entrepreneurship. Expert sessions featured Dr Phani Kumar Pullela, director – Alumni Relations, RV University; Dr Varadarajan S, deputy director – IP & Technology Transfer, MAHE; Adv. Pranav Bhat, managing partner, Lextria Research; and Adv. Swapnil Jayanth Gawande.
Manipal Universal Technology Business Incubator (MUTBI) organised the workshop with support from MeitY Startup Hub, Government of India, in association with MIDAS DST-MAHE Hub, the Directorate of Research – MAHE, the Directorate of Corporate Relations – MAHE, the Innovation Centre – MAHE, and Manipal GoK Bioincubator.
Dr Arun G. Maiya, dean, Manipal College of Health Professions, Manipal and principal coordinator, MIDAS DST-MAHE Hub; Dr Naveen Salins, directorate of research - MAHE; Dr Mohammad Zuber, CIO, Innovation Centre - MAHE, and Dr Manesh Thomas, ceo, Manipal GoK Bioincubator, attended the inaugural programme.
Dr Santhosha Rao, ceo of MUTBI and programme coordinator of MARIN E, welcomed the gathering. Ashmitha, manager of MUTBI, proposed the vote of thanks, while Dr Nisha P Shetty, associate professor at the School of Computer Engineering, compered the inaugural programme.
