Mnagaluru, Sep 2: An orientation programme for the newly admitted first-year B.Tech. engineering students for the academic year 2026–27 was organised today at Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology, SUIET Mukka, Mangaluru.
The honourable chancellor of Srinivas University, Dr A Srinivas Rao, presided over the programme and inaugurated it by lighting the ceremonial lamp. The newly admitted students and their parents also joined the dignitaries on stage for the lamp-lighting ceremony, adding special significance to the occasion.
Vijayalakshmi R Rao (trustee member, Board of Governors), Prof Er A Mitra S. Rao (trustee member, Board of Governors), Dr K Satyanarayana Reddy (vice-chancellor, Srinivas University), Dr Anil Kumar (registrar), Dr Ramakrishna N. Hegde (dean, Srinivas University Institute of Engineering and Technology), and Dr Asha Saraswathi (convenor of the Programme) were present on the dais.
Dr Ramakrishna N. Hegde (dean, SUIET Mukka), delivered the welcome and keynote addresses. In his address, he highlighted the rich legacy and remarkable 38-year journey of the Srinivas Group of Educational Institutions, tracing its evolution and continued commitment to excellence in education. Dr Ramakrishna N Hegde also provided the newly admitted students and their parents with an overview of the various academic, technological, entrepreneurial and career-development opportunities available at the institute. He highlighted the initiatives and facilities offered through the Incubation Centre, Start-up ecosystem, Centres of Excellence, Digital learning platforms, and Training and Placement facilities, emphasising the institute’s commitment to equipping students with industry-relevant skills and preparing them for successful careers. Dr Raamakrishna Hegde also introduced the distinguished dignitaries present on the dais, and the Heads of Departments, giving the students and parents an opportunity to become familiar with the academic leadership of the institution.
In his presidential address, the honourable chancellor of Srinivas University, Dr. A. Srinivas Rao, emphasised that Srinivas University has integrated a value-added curriculum aligned with the evolving needs of industry, emerging technologies, and the future job market. He highlighted the University’s commitment to equipping students with knowledge, skills, and cutting-edge technological competencies, while creating ample opportunities for them to excel in their chosen careers. Underscoring the importance of lifelong learning, Dr. A. Srinivas Rao urged the newly admitted engineering students to “Learn for Life, Not for the Exam.” Dr Srinivas Rao encouraged them to develop a genuine passion for their subjects and to actively engage in both academic and extracurricular activities, which, he said, would enhance their confidence, creativity, leadership abilities, and overall personality development. Highlighting the innovative projects successfully developed and demonstrated by the Engineering Students of the college including the Human-Carrying Drone “Sri Vahan”, AI-driven Autonomous Vehicle “Sri Vahan”, and AI Reception Robot “Srini Bot”, the Chancellor emphasised the importance of experiential and project-based learning. Dr Srinivas Rao advised the students to make effective use of the facilities and opportunities available at the institution and to cultivate an innovative and entrepreneurial mindset from the beginning of their academic journey. Dr A. Srinivas Rao further stated that Srinivas University places strong emphasis on Research and Development (R&D) at the undergraduate level, encouraging students to explore new ideas, undertake innovative projects, identify real-world problems, and develop technology-driven solutions. He urged the students to think beyond conventional career paths and aspire to become entrepreneurs and innovators, contributing meaningfully to society and the nation.
Vice-chancellor of Srinivas University, Dr K Satyanarayana Reddy, emphasised the vital role of innovation and research in today’s rapidly evolving world. He observed that engineers play a crucial role in identifying and solving many of the challenges faced by society through technological innovation and creative problem-solving. He urged the students to cultivate a strong research-oriented mindset, nurture curiosity, explore new ideas, and develop innovative solutions to real-world problems. He emphasised that developing a culture of research and innovation from the undergraduate level would enable students to build successful careers, contribute meaningfully to society, and emerge as competent professionals and responsible citizens.
On this occasion, India’s first octa-configuration human-carrying drone “Sri Viman,” the AI-driven autonomous vehicle “Sri Vahan,” and the AI Reception Robot “Srini Bot,” developed by Prof. Vishwas Shetty, Er. Vishakh Mendon, and their team, were showcased to the gathering. The innovative projects were demonstrated and explained to the newly admitted students and their parents, offering them an insight into the institute’s strong focus on cutting-edge research, technological innovation, hands-on learning, and real-world problem-solving. The demonstrations also highlighted the institution’s commitment to nurturing an innovation-driven and entrepreneurial culture among its students.

Dr Praveen B M (director-research) briefed the newly admitted students on the rules and regulations of the institution, along with the essential Do’s and Don’ts to be followed during their academic journey.
On the occasion, some of the newly admitted students and their parents shared their views, experiences, and reasons for choosing SUIET Mukka for their higher education. They expressed their appreciation for the institution’s academic environment, infrastructure, innovative learning opportunities, and career-oriented approach.

The orientation programme provided a warm, informative, and inspiring welcome to the new batch of engineering students, introducing them to the academic environment, institutional values, opportunities, and facilities at Srinivas University.
