Beltangady, Aug 15: A youth from Beltangady allegedly strangled his wife to death and subsequently died by suicide at Rajarajeshwari Nagar in Bengaluru on August 14.

The deceased have been identified as Padmavathi (29) and Sumanth Jain (32).

Sumanth, a native of Elaneeru in Malavantaje village of Beltangady taluk in Dakshina Kannada district, was a civil engineer. Padmavathi was employed at a company near Whitefield.

The couple reportedly had a family dispute on Thursday night. The quarrel allegedly escalated, following which Sumanth killed his wife. He is also said to have sent a voice message to his mother stating that he was going to die.

He reportedly sent another voice message asking his family to take his PF money and the belongings from the house, following which he allegedly died by suicide.

Rajarajeshwari Nagar police have registered a case and launched an investigation.

The couple, who had fallen in love and married three years ago, had been living in Bengaluru for the past one-and-a-half years. The couple reportedly had a quarrel on Thursday, which allegedly escalated and resulted in the killing.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and are conducting an inspection.

Police and a SOCO team have inspected the house. The inquest and post-mortem examinations of the bodies are yet to be conducted, it is learnt.
